I Am Still Alive!

Hi everyone! I apologize greatly for the lengthy time period between blogs. I had planned on putting up a new blog last Sat., and then our internet was down the whole day so I couldn't. It's been crazy busy lately. Michael came home from Africa last Friday! Thanks to all of you who prayed for him and his team. I was able to pick him up from the airport, which was fun. He left on Tuesday morning to go home to GA for a nice long visit, so you can imagine the madness of life in the few days he was here. I'm still recovering! :)

I can't believe the end of June is almost here. If you can believe it, I will celebrate my one year anniversary of living in Boston on July 4th. This first year has gone by faster than I ever imagined it would. I will post a blog soon with my musings on this past year, and my reflections as I look back over this time. Keep your eyes peeled for that!

I am really excited about the 4th of July. I am going to be going into Boston to hear the Boston Pops and watch fireworks over the river, which should be awesome. Then my dad is coming up for a week to hang out with us, which will be so fun! And THEN.... everyone put this on your calendar - I will be home in GA for the first week of August! I will be arriving on Friday night the 1st and will leave on Sat. the 9th. I am looking forward to a time of relaxation and being able to visit with lots of people, so I hope to see many of you then.

I am at work right now, writing this blog while I eat my lunch, so I should probably go. I'll post more blogs soon! Miss you all...

My Pa

I consider myself to be the luckiest girl in the world to have the dad that I have. Perhaps "luckiest" isn't the correct word. Blessed by God is more like it. This has never been more evident to me than in the last 18 months. Despite the circumstances that have occurred, I have never doubted God's love and goodness towards me. I attribute this primarily to the way that I have been loved by my earthly father. Because my daddy has loved me well, it is easier to trust that God is who He says He is, and that He loves me too. This is huge in the healing process, and I am deeply grateful.

I've never been shy about being a "daddy's girl", and on this Father's Day, I want to give a shout out on my blog to my Dad. Pa - THANK YOU! Thank you for being a dad who has shown me in countless ways down through the years that you love me. Thank you for staying married in a culture where that's not the norm. Thank you for working hard to take care of your family. Thank you for letting me know you love me by washing and vacuuming my car. (Side note - it needs it - should I save it for when you visit?? :-P) Thank you for hugging us and loving God and letting us have pets and for loving to make things with your hands and for a thousand other things that make up the fabric of the life of our family. Words alone are not enough, so to keep it simple: I LOVE YOU! And I'm more thankful than ever for the daddy you are. Thank you. Can't wait to see you soon!

It Is Finished!

After a hard day of work, the apartment is finally finished being painted!!!! Everything is clean and put away and freshly painted, and I LOVE IT!! While I have enjoyed the process of painting, I am very glad to be done. It's nice to have it finished and to like it, and it's cool how it all pulled together and came out exactly like I pictured it in my head. I'm one of those people who sees things in my head and then I just go about figuring out how to make that picture come to life. It's always nice when it actually turns out how you picture it! :)

Anyway, here are some pictures. The first is the bathroom, with the new shower curtain that helps tie everything together.

This is the study, where I sit and write my blogs. Looking out the window you see in the picture, you can see the ocean during the day and hear the waves from the ocean at night. The study and the bathroom are the same color.

Here's a picture that shows most of the living room and kitchen, looking into the study. The brown curtain is new - I put it up so that when Michael studies at night, he can pull it shut and the light won't blind me as I try to sleep. Unless he's in there at night, we'll keep it open, so the pictures below represent the differences.

For some reason depending on the light and time of day, the kitchen wall color changes colors. It looks a lot more yellow in these pictures than it often looks in real life. :) Anyway, I am really thrilled with how it all goes together. I wanted to keep it pretty neutral, with splashes of color that reflect that we live at the beach. I think that has been achieved. It has helped me bond more with the place and make it feel like it's mine. Paint changes things so much, and I love the personal touches that I got to create. Ellie likes it too - here is a picture of her surrounded by her new favorite color!

Hot Monday

Wow, is it ever hot up here! We're having a heat wave too, and it's been in the high 80's and low 90's the past couple of days. We don't have AC up here because you don't normally need it, so trying to sleep at night is an interesting experience. Thankfully, I live in the north and the heat is supposed to break later this week, with temps dropping back in the 70's. For now, we must endure.

Poor Ellie is miserable. It felt pretty decent outside tonight - the heat rises on our 3rd floor apartment, plus the sun sets on our side of the house. So I took her out for a walk on her leash. She got to be in the breeze, eat some grass, and feel important. Here is our adventure...

After being outside, she came and collapsed inside. She is brilliant - she lays where the fans hit her. :)

I got a bunch of painting done yesterday afternoon, and I am ALMOST FINISHED!!!! Everything looks so good, and I love it! It might not get finished until this weekend, unless I am inspired to work on it in the evenings after work. We'll see. I will post pictures when it's all done, and you can also come and visit us to see it in person! Michael is coming home a week from Friday, which will be nice, and it will all be through in time.

I hope that everyone has a most fantastic week. Miss and love you all!

Ramblings

For any of you who have cats....have you ever noticed the phenomenon that occurs when you change your cat's litter? No matter where they might be, it's as if the sound of the clean litter pouring into their fresh litter box inspires movement, and they promptly come and take a dump and ruin the fresh litter. It never fails to amaze me. Does anyone else have this issue? Or do I just have a superhero cat pooper?

Anyway, happy Thursday evening to you all! I am so thankful that the weekend is almost here. I am hoping to get all of the painting finished in my apartment this weekend. That will be a very exciting thing. Michael is coming home in a couple of weeks, so I figure I should get everything finished.

When my Mom and I went to New York, we walked through Central Park some, which was fun. We entered the park at the Strawberry Fields area where John Lennon was inspired to write the song from. There was a memorial to him on the sidewalk. I thought it looked cool, and we took a few pictures. I edited this and liked how it turned out. I might have to blow it up and put it on my wall somewhere - perhaps in my office. I love the quote that says, "To imagine is everything; to know is nothing at all."

Everyone enjoy your Friday! Much love to you from the Boston chick and her cat...

The North Shore With Mum

Greetings! As promised (a day late!), here are pictures and stories from the rest of my Mom's visit. After our fun time in New York, God gave us glorious spring weather for two days. It was in the mid-70's, the sun was shining, and the ocean was a beautiful color blue, as you'll see in some of the pictures below.

On Sunday, we went to church, and then we came home and ate lunch before deciding to go down to the rocks at the end of my street. We laid on the rocks in the sun and rested and took fun pictures and just enjoyed the day. Here are a few pictures from our time there.

After laying on the rocks, we walked on Shore Road to the pier. Here's the Mum on a dock that is anchored off the pier. Isn't the blue water so pretty?? So is the Mum!

On Memorial Day, we walked across the beach by my house to Ocean Lawn and laid on the rocks there. We also went into Rockport and Gloucester to get some "beach town" pictures and stopped by a beach as well. Craziness, but fun! It was VERY windy, as you can tell by my Mom's hair! :)

I had a fabulous time hanging out with my Mom while she was here. It was such a nice break, and we had fun catching up and just relaxing together. It was also fun because she got to meet lots of people and see a bit of my new world that I have developed up here. I know that was cool for her, and they all enjoyed it as well. And Ellie LOVED having her grandmother here! She went through a bit of a depression after she left. I got some cute pictures of them together, but this one that I shall close this entry with makes me laugh every time I see it. I think Ellie looks like a stuffed animal in it! Hope you all enjoy this week. Thanks for visiting me and Ellie, Mum! We love you and miss you!
